Take wide shots plus close-ups of existing damage. Keep the original files and date information.

Test doors, windows, and locks

Make sure they open, close, and secure properly.

Check water and plumbing

Run faucets, flush toilets, and look below sinks for leaks or moisture.

Test lights and major appliances

Report anything that does not work as expected.

Look at walls, floors, and counters

Record scratches, stains, holes, chips, and other existing wear.

Submit the condition report promptly

Use the landlord or manager’s required process and keep a copy of what you submit.
